
Maietta to Compete for USA at Senior World Rowing Championships

RACICE, Czech Republic – Boston University women's lightweight rowing alumna Sarah Maietta (CAS'20) will represent the United States in the 2022 senior World Rowing Championships.
Maietta will race in the Lightweight Women's Quadruple Sculls alongside Grace D'Souza, Elizabeth Martin, and Cara Stawicki. The USRowing boat is one of two entries in the event, and squares off against Italy. The World Rowing Championships take place from Sept. 18-25.
A Wayland, Mass. native, Maietta makes her first appearance with the senior team following two stints with the Under-23 squad. She earned a gold medal in the lightweight pair at the 2018 Word Rowing U23 Championships in 2018, then followed that up with a second-place finish in the same event at the 2019 U23 World Rowing Championships.
A 2018 CRCA Scholar-Athlete, Maietta collected three medals in the Varsity Eight at the IRA National Championship Regatta during her BU tenure. She earned two silvers in 2017 and 2018, the former result helping the Terriers finish as a national runner-up. She helped guide the V8 to gold in the 2018 Dad Vail Regatta and Eastern Sprints. At the Head of the Charles, she racked up a pair of silver medals and a bronze medal among all lightweights in the V8.
Maietta graduated from Boston University in 2020 with a degree in International Relations.
The senior World Rowing Championships are held every year at the end of the international rowing season, and World Champions are crowned in 14 Olympic boat classes – seven for men and seven for women, as well as six international boat classes for lightweight rowers. This is the first world championships since 2019 following the COVID-19 pandemic.
