Men's Soccer to End Homestand with Army West Point Wednesday Night

BOSTON – Concluding a three-game homestand, the Boston University men's soccer team will host Patriot League foe Army West Point on Wednesday night with action slated to begin at 7 p.m.

The Terriers are coming off back-to-back shutouts against Boston College and Lafayette, while the Black Knights are riding a five-game unbeaten streak following Saturday's 3-2 win at Holy Cross.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU is unbeaten through its first four games (1-0-3) at Nickerson Field for the first time since 2002 when the Terriers started 6-0-2. BU earned a 1-0 win against Merrimack and tied with Saint Joseph's, 1-1.
  • Senior Francesco Montali was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time Monday after earning BU's first back-to-back shutout performances since 2018. He currently ranks seventh nationally in save percentage (.867), 10th in shutouts (4) and 11th in goals against average (.571).
  • The Terriers will try to earn a third straight clean sheet for the first time since 2017 and will also try to avoid being shut out in four straight contests for the first time since the start of the 2019 season.
  • Senior Colin Innes remains the team leader in both points (4) and goals (2), while junior Andrew Rent has a team-high three assists. Senior Quinn Matulis is the lone Terrier with both a goal and assist so far.
  • Opponents are averaging 3.2 more shots per game with a 51-31 advantage in corner kicks after BU prevented Lafayette from earning a corner for the first time this season.
SCOUTING ARMY
  • The Black Knights are 2-1-2 on the road this season with a 1-0 win at Sacred Heart and 1-1 draws to both Seton Hall and Fairleigh Dickinson after openeing with a 2-1 loss at Michigan State.
  • Army opened conference play with a 2-1 win vs. Loyola and has yet to be shut out this season, averaging 1.63 goals per game with opponents owning a 15.9-9.4 advantage in shots.
  • Gage Guerra owns a team-high 10 points off four goals and two assists, while Cooper Warren has a team-high five assists.
  • Army has had two goalkeepers split time at net. Josh Taylor is 2-0-2 with a 0.783 save percentage and 1.30 goals against average, while Tomas Hut owns a .714 save % and 1.44 GAA.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU leads the all-time series, 8-4-3, with the rivalry dating back to 1978.
  • The Terriers are 5-0-2 all-time at home with the last two contests ending in a draw in 2020 and 2018, respectively.
  • Last season, Army scored in both the 77th and 81st minutes while adding five saves to claim a 2-0 win.
UP NEXT
  • The Terriers will fly south to Annapolis, Maryland, to visit Navy on Saturday (Oct. 1) at 3 p.m.
  • BU has won four of the last five meetings, all at home, by an identical score of 1-0 and will be on the road for the first time since a 2-1 loss in 2018.
