Scarlet Key - Class of 2024

Six Student-Athletes Selected for Scarlet Key Induction

October 16, 2023

BOSTON - Six student-athletes have been selected to Boston University's Scarlet Key Class of 2024 in honor of their service and leadership within the BU community.

The Scarlet Key Award, one of BU's highest academic honors, acknowledges the curricular and extracurricular achievements of the students who are nominated. Scarlet Key recipients are nominated by faculty and staff and are evaluated in five areas: leadership, commitment, representation, tradition and academics.

Matthew Boberg (men's soccer), Miles Brewster (men's basketball), Anna Dechantstreiter (women's rowing), Alanna Hoffman (women's lightweight rowing), Abigail McNulty (women's soccer) and Eitan Rosen (men's soccer) were honored in a tapping ceremony during Alumni Weekend and will officially receive the prestigious award in May.

A member of the men's soccer team's Leadership Committee, Boberg (Brownsburg, Ind.) has been very active with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), serving last season as Treasurer and this academic year as Co-President. In the classroom, the 2022 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member is currently pursuing both a bachelor's and master's degree in biology. He's aided in research projects at Brigham and Women's Hospital and helped form the Athletes in Medicine group, which allows student-athletes interested in pursuing medical careers to come together to study, hear from speakers and engage in the community.

Named men's basketball team captain for the upcoming season, Brewster (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll award recipient and a 2023 NABC Honors Court member. Helping SAAC this past year as the Campus and Community Service Liaison, he is credited as always bringing energy and a positive attitude to everything he does. Majoring in international relations, he made 10 starts this past year, highest amount for returning players, and totaled 30 steals, second most on the squad.

Through a commitment to excellence, leadership and inclusivity, Dechantstreiter (Boston, Mass.) has been a valued member of the women's rowing team and the entire BU community. Last year as a junior, Dechantstreiter earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League Team and the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. She helped the Terriers claim the 2022 Patriot League title and sat in the two seat for two PL second varsity 8 championships. She currently serves as the communications specialist on SAAC and was on the executive board of Athlete Ally. A captain on this year's rowing team, Decantstreiter has volunteered at Common Cathedral and Winter Walk and Co, helping raise homelessness awareness.

A bronze medalist in the varsity double at the 2023 IRA National Championship, Hoffman (Kensington, Md.) has been a key component to the success of women's lightweight rowing team during her time at BU. She has a 3.97 cumulative GPA in political science and held high-level roles within Pre-Law Review and Pre-Law Society. Hoffman is also an officer candidate in the platoon leaders class at the United States Marine Corps and has interned in the office of Senator Chris Van Hollen and the Veterans' Legal Clinic at Harvard Law School. She is active in BU's Alpha Phi Omega community service fraternity and USRowing's STEMS to STERN social justice initiative.

A health science major in Sargent College, McNulty (Stow, Mass.) is relentless in her pursuit of excellence in athletics and academics as a standout for the women's soccer program. She is a four-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week and a two-time All-Patriot League honoree, claiming first-team honors as a sophomore and second-team recognition as a junior, and earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team in 2021. McNulty has totaled 31 points (9g, 13) in 44 career games and was named the team's offensive MVP her sophomore year. She is a positive presence in all the communities she engages in across campus and is a proud Terrier.

Besides serving alongside Boberg on the men's soccer team's Leadership Committee, Rosen (Toronto, Ont.) has devoted time to assist the Student-Athletes of Color group as Director of Communications and Outreach. He was selected to represent BU at the Black Student-Athlete Summit hosted by the University of Southern California. Majoring in business management and administration, the two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll honoree is currently having his best season yet with a team-high 14 points (6g,2a).
