BOSTON – A bronze medal in the Women's Championship Doubles highlighted the Boston University lightweight rowing program's tenure at the 58th Head of the Charles Regatta over the weekend, with the DeWolfe Boathouse serving as the starting line.
BU operated six total crews, including four with current student-athletes. Graduates joined together in the Women's Alumnae Eights on Saturday (Oct. 21), completing the course in 18:36.820 to place 34th out of 50 crews. In the Women's Championship Singles, alumna Sarah Maietta (CAS'20) finished with a time of 20:45.987, good for 22nd.
For the first time in program history, the Terriers entered the Women's Championship Doubles. The duo of Caroline Burchette and Kylie Lough captured the bronze medal on Saturday (Oct. 21) in 19:08.537. That performance was second among lightweight crews, trailing West End by just .015 seconds.
On Sunday (Oct. 22), two Terrier boats competed in the Lightweight 4+. The "A" boat, coxed by Rayna Kuthiala and stroked by Savanna Jacovini, was sixth in a time of 19:43.463, finishing ahead of the top boats from Georgetown, MIT, and Gordon. The "B" boat, coxed by Mayela Gaol and stroked by Kieran Purandare, earned ninth in 19:59.983.
In the Lightweight 8+, BU, coxed by Heather Shinn and stroked by Maecy Rickman, placed second after finishing in 17:19.902, just over four seconds behind leader Harvard-Radcliffe and ahead of Princeton, Georgetown, and MIT. It marks the first time since 2017 the Terriers earned the silver in the event, and third overall.
BU concludes the fall portion of its schedule with the Foot of the Charles on Saturday (Nov. 11).
