BOSTON – Junior Alex Giannaros led all scorers with 15 points, senior Caitlin Weimar added her third double-double of the year, and the Boston University women's basketball program collected a 64-53 victory over Le Moyne on Wednesday afternoon at Case Gym.

Leading by as many as 21 points in the third, BU (4-1) saw the gap trimmed to six heading into the fourth quarter. However, that was the closest the Dolphins (1-5) got to the Terriers, as three-consecutive three-pointers to start the final frame allowed BU to pull away.

Giannaros drained four three-pointers, while freshman Audrey Ericksen nailed three from distance for 11 points. Weimar tallied 12 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks.

Leah Middleton scored 14 points to pace Le Moyne, while Sydney Lusher added 11 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Terriers took a 9-7 lead four minutes into the contest when senior Sophie Beneventine converted a layup in the left lane. Ericksen then intercepted a Dolphin pass at midcourt, and found Giannaros open in the left corner for a three.
Emily Florvil's layup at the 1:37 mark of the first quarter closed the Terrier lead to 15-14, senior Kelsi Mingo and Ericksen connected on back-to-back triples, the latter staking BU to a 21-16 advantage after 10 minutes.
Weimar and sophomore Anete Adler linked up on consecutive possessions for each to sink layups, coaxing a Le Moyne timeout 1:42 into the second stanza.
Lusher nailed a jumper, but Giannaros responded with multiple three-pointers, then Adler's layup on a pass from Mingo extended the Terrier edge to 33-20.
Beneventine tallied five-straight points, including a corner three, to give BU its largest lead of the first half, 44-25.
Neither team made a basket from the field in the third quarter until the 6:48 mark, when Weimar got a layup to go thanks to a pass from Beneventine.
Sophomore Anastasiia Semenova drilled a baseline jumper just inside the arc with 4:54 on the clock in the third, but those were the final Terrier points in the period, as the Dolphins ripped off 14 consecutive points to cut it to 51-45 with ten minutes left in regulation.
Ericksen opened the fourth with a three from the left corner, then drew a charge on Florvil. In transition, Giannaros canned her own three near the same spot as Ericksen for a 57-45 Terrier lead.
The rookie then delivered a top-of-the-key three-pointer with 7:01 to go to replenish BU's edge to 60-45.
Adler helped close the game out when she scooped a ball from Lusher, and fed Mingo for a wide-open layup the other way to make it 62-49 past the fourth quarter's midpoint.

STATS

BU's 64 points and .463 field goal percentage were a season-high.
Le Moyne made just over 35 percent of its shots, but under 23 percent (5-for-22) from deep.
BU assisted on 22 of its 25 buckets. Beneventine led the Terriers with six.
The Terriers won the rebounding battle, 32-27.
Mingo collected three of BU's 10 steals to pace the squad.

NOTES

In the win, Giannaros made her 100th-career three-pointer. She now has 102 in 55 career contests.
The Brockton, Mass. native is also the only Terrier to score 10 or more points in all five games this season.
Weimar's double-double was her 27th as a Terrier, and 30th in her collegiate tenure. She now sports 951 career collegiate points.
In her last two games, Ericksen has combined for 24 points on 6-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc.
Dating back to 2019-20, and including postseason games, BU is 49-15 in its last 64 games at The Roof.
The Terriers have yet to surrender 60 points in a game this year.
Junior Natalie Jasper and freshman Emelia O'Gilvie made their Terrier debuts in the second half, while freshman Aina Grane Torres stepped on the Case Gym hardwood in a game for the first time.
BU captured the win in the first all-time meeting with Le Moyne.
