Cross Country Prepped for NCAA Northeast Regionals
November 9, 2023 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
BOSTON – The Boston University cross country teams will compete at the NCAA Northeast Regionals on Friday at Van Cortlandt Park, N.Y. The women's 6K event will run at 11 a.m. and the men's 10K race starts at noon.
BU will compete against multiple nationally ranked programs at the regional event. The women will race against No. 26 Harvard, No. 28 Syracuse and No. 29 Providence which are Nos. 1, 2 and 3 in the region. The men will see No. 8 Syracuse, No. 15 Harvard and No. 27 Iona which are also top-three in the region.
The Terriers most recently competed at the Patriot League Championships at which the women took second and the men placed third. On the women's side, freshman Hannah Prosser was crowned the individual champion with a first-place finish in 20:37.5 over the 6K.
Sophomore Vera Sjöberg placed second (21:45.1) at the meet, joining Prosser as a First Team All-Patriot League selection. Freshmen Kelly Jones, Adrienne Buettner-Cable and Abby Waddington also scored for BU and made the Second Team All-Patriot League.
For the men, sophomore Parker Schneider led the pack with a fourth-place finish in the 8K with a 24:55.5 to earn First Team All-PL Honors. Senior Robert Hannon, sophomore Freddy Collins and senior Matthew Mason all received Second Team All-PL Honors. Also scoring for BU was graduate student Foster Malleck.
BU's scorers at the conference championships have been in or near the top five for the entirety of the 2023 season and will look to continue that trend at the regional meet.
The last time the women cracked the top-10 as a team was in 2010 when they placed 10th. The men more recently had a top-10 finish when they were sixth in 2017.
