February 25, 2023 | Men's Tennis
CUMBERLAND, R.I. – In a matchup of former conference rivals, the Boston University men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Delaware at the Fore Court Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Hens (6-1) pulled out a tightly-contested doubles point with a tiebreaker and then captured four singles points, including three in straight sets, to defeat the Terriers (6-5). The two programs both used to be members of the America East and recorded a split in back-to-back championship round meetings in 1996 and 1997.
In doubles, Delaware won the first contest, 6-3, in the No. 3 slot. Junior Jonah Dickson and sophomore Cole Knutsen earned a 7-6(4) win at line 2, but Delaware escaped with the point by edging sophomore Dion Loutas and freshman Alejandro Licea, 7-6(3).
Knutsen improved to 2-0 on the day by claiming a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. Freshman Corey Craig almost added another singles point but came up just short in the No. 2 slot with a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 loss.
Junior Ben Letzer won the third most games for BU in a 7-5, 6-4 defeat at line 4.
The Terriers will wrap up a three-match weekend by visiting Dartmouth on Sunday (Feb. 26) at 3 p.m.
