Women's Rowing Hosts MIT In Spring Opener
March 24, 2023 | Women's Rowing
BOSTON – The Boston University women's rowing program ignites the 2023 spring schedule with a dual race against local foe MIT on Saturday (March 25) on the Charles River.
Saturday's race is available to watch on ESPN+, requiring a subscription. Fans can watch online as well as through the ESPN app with the subscription. The broadcast begins with the BU women's and lightweight races against MIT and Boston College, respectively, and concludes with the men's rowing dual competition vs. Brown.
BU opens the spring campaign fresh off its second Patriot League championship as a league member. Earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, the Terriers placed 19th, with a six-point improvement over its previous appearance in 2014. At the Head of the Charles back in the fall, the Terriers' Club 4+ earned bronze, as all four crews finished in the top-20.
The Terriers return 30 letterwinners from last year's squad, adding 12 newcomers. The roster features one graduate student, nine seniors, nine juniors, 12 sophomores, and 11 freshmen. Director of Women's Rowing Madeline Davis Tully enters her sixth season at the helm, receiving a multi-year contract extension back in December.
BU and MIT square off in a dual race for the second-consecutive year. The Terriers swept all three events, highlighted by the Varsity 8's finish in 7:35.1, five seconds ahead of the Engineers' crew.
