Women’s Rowing Takes On Northeastern For Council Cup
April 14, 2023 | Women's Rowing
BOSTON – In its final dual race of the 2023 spring season, the Boston University women's rowing team faces off against local foe Northeastern with the Council Cup on the line on Saturday (April 15). The first race on the Charles River begins at approximately 8 a.m.
Saturday's race is available to watch on ESPN+, requiring a subscription. Fans can watch online as well as through the ESPN app with the subscription.
The Terriers head into Saturday's clash with two dual race wins this spring, sweeping both MIT and Dartmouth. Both of BU's Varsity 8 events have seen the crew win by at least 12 seconds. In the most recent matchup, the Terriers collected wins in the V8, 2V8, 3V8, and Fours against the Big Green.
Northeastern also competes in its third event of the spring, participating in the Doc Hosea Invitational at the beginning of the month and recently rowing against Columbia and Patriot League foe Navy. The Huskies' V8 and 2V8 placed second behind the Lions in times of 6:54.10 and 7:04.54, respectively.
BU seeks its second win in a row for the Council Cup, and in three of the last four meetings. Last year, the Terriers triumphed with a time of 7:26.6, six seconds ahead of Northeastern and nearly 30 seconds over Rhode Island. All-time, BU sports a 22-16 advantage in Council Cup races, dating back to 1980.
Following Saturday's races, the Terriers travel down to North Carolina for the Lake Wheeler Invite, racing from April 21-22.
