Women’s Rowing Posts Four Wins In Sweep Of Dartmouth
April 8, 2023 | Women's Rowing
BOSTON – The Boston University women's rowing program secured another spring dual race sweep, this time over Dartmouth on Saturday (April 8) on the Charles River. BU previously swept Patriot League foe MIT on March 25.
"We're satisfied with the performance today from all crews," said Director of Rowing Madeline Davis Tully. "We got nearly the entire squad racing, and it's always fun to see everyone's hard work pay off out on the water. The 3V8 had the most exciting race of the day, and I was particularly impressed with their grit as they battled it out with Dartmouth for the full 2,000 meters. This was a good next step in our racing season and we look forward to taking on Northeastern for the Council Cup next weekend."
Three of the four events saw the Terriers' top crew finish more than 10 seconds over the Big Green's, none larger than the Varsity 8 race. BU, coxed by Audrey Lucerne and stroked by Sofia Suhinin, crossed the finish line in 7:02.9, while Dartmouth followed at 7:15.8.
The day began with the Fours event, where the Terriers' "A" crew, coxed by Kennedy Walker and stroked by Sally Thoden, finished in a time of 7:58.2 to pace all boats. The "B" crew, coxed by Valeria Lizarraga Ramirez and stroked by Brianna Swartz, was right behind at 8:05.7. The Big Green rounded out the competition in 8:10.6.
In the Second Varsity 8 race, BU, coxed by Trisha Jaggi and stroked by Tiare Hicks, took first with a time of 7:15.4, nearly 13 seconds ahead of the Big Green's 7:28.1.
The closest race of the day was in the Third Varsity 8. BU's crew, coxed by Maya Wiisanen and stroked Ally Blank, narrowly captured first in 7:23.9, with Dartmouth just eight-tenths behind at 7:24.7.
BU continues dual race action on the Charles River when it takes on local rival Northeastern on Saturday (April 15), airing on ESPN+. The matchup will be the final dual race for the Terriers this spring.
