BOSTON – The Boston University field hockey team will host No. 16 Boston College on Friday (Sept. 8) in the latest edition of the Green Line rivalry. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU enters Friday's contest with a 1-2 record, having defeated Maine in addition to losses against Michigan State and Ohio.
- The Terriers have scored five goals this season and they have come from five different players.
- Freshman Alex Purcell was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday after helping the Terriers earn a 3-2 overtime win over Maine last Friday.
- Purcell scored the game-tying goal - her first tally as a Terrier - and was part of a defense that allowed just four Maine corners.
- Sophomore Amalia Preece scored the overtime winner against the Black Bears off senior Thalia Steenssens' second assist of the contest.
- Most recently, BU dropped a 2-1 neutral-site contest to Ohio on Saturday with sophomore Caroline O'Brien scoring her first collegiate goal.
- Junior Payton Anderson and sophomore Martu Coulo have also scored a goal this season.
- Senior Kate Thomason has started all three games this season and has a 2.46 goals-against average to go along with a .650 save percentage.
- This will be BU's last home game until Sept. 30 when it will host Bucknell to kick off a six-game homestand.Â
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
- The Eagles are 2-2 and are coming off back-to-back 1-0 overtime losses in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge to then-No. 2 Northwestern and then-No. 3 Maryland.
- BC opened the year with wins over Maine and Providence.
- Senior Peyton Hale has a team-high six points this season on two goals and two assists.
- Graduate student Margo Carlin (1g, 2a) and sophomore Mia Garber (2g) have added four points apiece.
- Caroline Kelly, who was a two-time All-Patriot League goaltender for BU and graduated in the spring, has played every minute in goal for the Eagles thus far as a graduate student and has an .813 save percentage and a 0.69 goals-against average.
- The Eagles were picked fifth in the preseason ACC poll..Â
SERIES HISTORY
- BC leads the all-time series, 23-18-3, and has won five straight meetings, including a 3-1 contest in Newton last season.
- The Terriers' last win over the Eagles came in overtime in 2016 and it created a tie in the rivalry history before BC went on its current run.
- The teams first met in 1978.
