BOSTON – Aiming for its sixth win in a row, the Boston University women's basketball program heads to American on Wednesday (Jan. 10). Opening tip is set for 11:30 a.m.

American (4-9, 2-0 PL) is in the midst of four home games within a five-game stretch. The Eagles seek their first three-game winning streak of the year.

  • BU recently defeated Lafayette on the road, 62-55, on Jan. 6.
  • Sophomore Anastasiia Semenova posted a career-high 21 points with a perfect 3-for-3 performance from distance, including a three with 2:45 to play to put the Terriers up 10 points.
  • Senior Caitlin Weimar recorded 19 points and a season-high 17 rebounds while hitting nine free throws across 13 drawn fouls.
  • After averaging 19 points and 15.5 boards in BU's 2-0 week to open Patriot League play, Weimar was tabbed as the Patriot League Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 8.
  • It marks Weimar's third weekly award this year, leading the conference and matching her personal- and program-best (Patriot League era) from 2022-23.
  • Weimar has five-straight games with a double-double, and is tied for ninth in the country with nine double-doubles this year. She is also fourth in Division I with 8.2 defensive caroms per game.
  • In her last five matchups, Semenova is averaging 14.2 points per game on 25-for-46 (54.3 percent) shooting.
  • She is now scoring 8.6 points per game this year, up from 1.6 in her rookie season.
  • BU has held opponents to under 60 points nine times in 2023-24, going 8-1 in such games.
  • The Terriers are also 6-1 in games decided by single digits.
SCOUTING AMERICAN
  • In the opening week of conference play, the Eagles picked up wins over Lehigh (68-65) and Bucknell (58-47).
  • Prior to that, American defeated Longwood and FDU in non-conference action.
  • Emily Johns is the lone Eagle scoring in double figures with 10.8 points per game on 48.7 percent shooting.
  • However, five different Eagles are averaging seven or more points per contest. American's 19.8 bench points per game are second in the Patriot League.
  • American was projected to finish fifth in the preseason poll, garnering two first-place votes, in Tiffany Coll's second season.
  • Last year, the Eagles went 9-22 on the season, going 7-11 against league foes and reaching the Patriot League quarterfinal round.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Wednesday marks the 27th all-time meeting between BU and American in a series that began in 1981.
  • The Eagles sport a 16-10 advantage in the rivalry, with a 12-1 record on home court.
  • However, the Terriers have won five of the previous seven matchups.
