BU Athletics Finalizes Contract Extensions for Both Basketball Head Coaches

October 31, 2024

BOSTON – Boston University director of athletics Drew Marrochello has announced that both head basketball coaches, Melissa Graves and Joe Jones, have recently signed multi-year contract extensions.

"As another basketball season gets underway, we are proud to announce that Coach Graves and Coach Jones have agreed to contract extensions here at BU," said Marrochello. "Our pursuit of Patriot League titles while providing a world-class student-athlete experience is in outstanding hands with these two leaders and their staffs, and we look forward to their continued success."

Entering her fourth season with the Terriers, Graves has amassed a 61-35 record at the helm. The 2022-23 Patriot League Coach of the Year has won 39 conference games during her tenure, the most in the Patriot League in that span. She has guided BU to consecutive Patriot League championship appearances as well as 20-plus wins the past two seasons, and helped BU earn its first Patriot League regular season title in 2022-23. Under Graves' tutelage, 13 Terriers have garnered All-Patriot League recognition.

"I am incredibly grateful to Drew Marrochello, our senior administration, and this amazing university for their continued support of BU Women's Basketball," said Graves. "Terrier Town is a special place, and I am blessed to have the opportunity to be here. My staff and I look forward to continuing to enhance our program's culture, competitive excellence and academic success, as we work for a Patriot League championship."

Jones has accumulated 218 wins over 13 seasons at the helm of the BU men's basketball program while leading the Terriers to five postseason berths. He guided BU to the 2020 Patriot League tournament title and the 2013-14 regular season crown and his teams have finished in the top four of the conference standings nine times. Jones' win total is second in program history, and his 111 conference victory rank fifth all-time in PL history. Overall, 40 Terriers have earned All-Conference accolades during his tenure.

"I'm deeply honored by the continued trust placed in me and the staff by Drew Marrochello and the senior administration to work with a special group of young men," said Jones. "I'm incredibly proud of the way they have represented Boston University both on and off the court. It's been a pleasure to not only interact with them but also with an incredible campus community. Opportunities like this happen when you work with great people, and my staff has played a big part in our success. We are all very excited to get the new season underway and compete for another Patriot League championship."

Both programs will open the regular season in a doubleheader at Case Gym against Northeastern on Monday (Nov. 4). The women will tip off at 4:30 p.m., and the men will follow at 7:30 p.m.
