Women’s Lacrosse Drops 16-13 Contest at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Boston University women's lacrosse team (4-3, 0-1 PL) fell to Bucknell (3-4, 1-0 PL) in a 16-13 decision in its Patriot League opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers built an early lead which they maintained until the third quarter. Bucknell tied the game three times through 8:28 to go in the final frame before surpassing BU to take a lead it would never relinquish. The Bison added two goals to solidify their first win over the Terriers in Patriot League competition.

In the loss, seven Terriers scored and were led by junior Raegan Bailey with four of her own. Senior Tobey Tick, freshman Reilly Walsh and sophomore Leah Hodgins all scored two goals while freshman Tessa Geddes and juniors Abby Cotraro and Avery Jones each scored one apiece. Sophomore Alyssa Mozi and junior Hannah Tillier added themselves to the points column thanks to their assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a costly Bucknell turnover, Jones responded with a front-door goal off a feed from Tillier to light the lamp.

  • Bucknell got on the board with a goal of its own at the 6:00 mark.
  • Bailey then fought her way through multiple defenders to score BU's fourth of the day.
  • Immediately after, Geddes won the draw control and raced to the goal and scored.
  • Bucknell then tallied three unanswered goals through 2:17 left in the half.
  • Bailey completed her hat trick with 45 seconds left in the opening frame to give BU the 6-4 lead headed into the second.
  • Bucknell got the ball rolling in the second with a goal 14 seconds into the quarter.
  • Walsh then responded with her first goal of the day on the free position attempt.
  • The Bison cut BU's lead to 7-6 with 9:47 to go in the half.
  • BU then went on to score three unanswered goals, the first of which came from Bailey.
  • Walsh scored again on the free position and Tick backed that up with her first goal since Feb. 28 to close out the scoring with BU up 10-6 at the half.
  • Bucknell scored four unanswered goals to open the third quarter and tie the game for the first time since the opening draw at 10-10.
  • Hodgins took back the lead for BU with a goal 31 seconds after the tie was created and then extended that lead further with a free position goal soon after.
  • Bucknell closed out the scoring in the third frame with two goals to tie things up 12-12.
  • The first five minutes of the final frame were quiet until Tick scored at the 9:08 mark to take back the lead for BU, but it would be the Terriers' final goal of the game.
