Men's Tennis Tops Navy, 4-2, in Rematch of 2023 PL Final

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After dropping the doubles point, the Boston University men's tennis team rallied in singles play to earn a 4-2 victory at defending Patriot League champion Navy on Sunday afternoon.
Snapping a six-match losing streak to the Midshipmen (18-11, 0-1 PL) with their first win in the series since 2018, the Terriers improve to 13-7 (1-0 PL). After Navy pulled out the doubles point by a combined score of 13-9, BU won four of the five completed singles matches in straight sets to claim the team victory.
The Terriers were in position to captured the doubles point, but Navy broke late for a 7-5 win on court 1 following a 6-4 victory at line 2. Senior Jonah Dickson and junior Adrian Pawlowski were ahead in the No. 3 slot, 6-5, when their match was halted.
In singles action, sophomore and 2023 PL Rookie of the Year Corey Craig rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the top match against 2023 PL Player and 2021 PL Rookie of the Year Sasha Panyan. Sophomore Alejandro Licea posted a 7-6(3), 6-2 win at line 3, but Navy briefly tied the score by holding off junior Dion Loutas, 7-6(3), 6-4, on court 4.
Senior Ben Letzer retook the lead by earning a 6-4, 7-5 win at line 6, and freshman Gustavs Dambins clinched the team victory by pulling out a 7-6(4), 6-4 win in the No. 5 slot.
Sophomore Jakob Esterowitz was up a break on court 2 when his match was halted leading, 6-3, 4-6, 3-1.
BU will next head to Bucknell for a pair of Patriot League matches. The Terriers will first face Colgate on Saturday (March 30) at 2 p.m. and then the Bison on Sunday (March 31) with an 11 a.m. start time.
