Women's Rowing Varsity 8 Named Patriot League Boat Of The Week
April 3, 2024 | Women's Rowing
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Fresh off the program's first spring race of the season on March 30, the Boston University women's rowing Varsity 8 has been selected as the Patriot League Boat of the Week for the week of April 3, the league announced on Wednesday morning.
BU captures the Patriot League Boat of the Week honor for the first time under Director of Women's Rowing Malcolm Doldron, and the first time since April 19, 2023. That was also the last instance that the Terrier V8 was given the recognition. It is the first Patriot League V8 to garner the accolade this year after Navy's Varsity 4 was chosen last week.
The crew, coxed by Trisha Jaggi and stroked by Mariana Forehand, had to overcome moderately choppy waters and wind gusts of nearly 30 miles per hour against Cornell last Saturday, with a cross-headwind brewing from the Cambridge coast. Nevertheless, the Terriers won their dual race over the Big Red in a time of 7:59.2, nearly a 21-second differential over its competition.
BU's win in the Varsity 8 marked the first dual victory under Doldron. Over the last three years, the V8 has won each of its first spring races on the campaign.
Georgetown's Varsity 8 earned an honorable mention from the Patriot League following its performance at the Doc Hosea Invitational.
The Terriers return to the water on Saturday (April 6), taking on Northeastern and Dartmouth on the Charles River. The first race is expected to begin at 9:10 a.m.
