CUMBERLAND, R.I. – Remaining unbeaten in Patriot League play, the Boston University men's tennis team posted a 4-2 victory over in-state rival Holy Cross Friday evening at the Fore Court Racquet & Fitness Club.
After the Crusaders (2-9, 1-4 PL) struck late to pull out the doubles point, the Terriers (16-7, 4-0 PL) extended their win streak to five matches by capturing four singles points, including three in straight sets. BU also claimed a point in the Turnpike Trophy all-sports competition against Holy Cross to grab a 10-7 lead with now just softball (3x), women's lacrosse and potential postseason matchups remaining.
Sophomore Corey Craig went 2-0 on the day to lead the Terriers, first teaming with senior Jonah Dickson for a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles and then cruising to a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the top singles slot.
The Crusaders grabbed an early 1-0 advantage by first breaking the Terriers late in a 7-5 decision on court 2 and then prevailing in the tiebreaker at line 1 for the 7-6(4) win.
Freshman Gustavs Dambins gave BU the lead for good with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court No. 2, as junior Dion Loutas followed up with a 6-1, 6-2 win at line 4. Senior Ben Letzer clinched the team victory by rallying from a set down to defeat the Crusaders, 0-6, 6-2, 7-5, in the No. 5 slot.
