
Men's Tennis Falls at No. 12 Harvard in NCAA First Round Debut

ALLSTON, Mass. - A landmark season for the Boston University men's tennis team came to an end on Friday as the Terriers dropped a 4-0 match to No. 12 Harvard in their NCAA tournament debut at Beren Tennis Center.
After earning the doubles point, the Crimson took the singles matches at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 4 to clinch the first-round victory. Sophomore Alejandro Licea won his opening set at No. 3 singles for the Terriers by a 6-2 margin.
Licea and classmate Corey Craig faced the 19th-ranked doubles team of Daniel Milavsky and Cooper Williams and dropped a 6-2 decision. The other doubles win for Harvard came at No. 3 as senior Jonah Dickson and junior Adrian Pawlowski fell to Masato Pereira and Alan Yim by a score of 6-2. Senior Johann Sajonz and sophomore Jakob Esterowitz were trailing 5-3 at No. 2 when the point was clinched.
The Terriers were competitive in all six singles matches as all three completed matches were won by Harvard by the same score of 6-2, 6-4. Esterowicz fell to Milavsky at No. 2, junior Dion Loutas lost to Pereira at No. 5 and then freshman Gustav Dambins was topped at No. 4 by Malchior Delloye for the fourth point.
Craig put up a strong effort against No. 15 Williams in the top singles match as the sophomore was down 6-4, 5-2 at the time of the clinching point. Senior Ben Letzer was tied at 6-6 in his second set with Alan Kim at No. 6 when the match ended.
BU, which entered the day on a 10-match win streak, closes out the season with a record of 21-8. Harvard (21-6) will face No. 22 Michigan State in second-round action on Saturday (May 4).
