September 26, 2024 | Women's Basketball
BOSTON – The Boston University women's basketball team will have three captains for the 2024-25 season, Head Coach Melissa Graves formally announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Alex Giannaros, junior Anastasiia Semenova, and sophomore Audrey Ericksen were selected as captains during the first week of official fall practices.
"I am so excited to have Alex, Ana and Audrey lead our team this season," said Graves. "They have proven themselves to their teammates and to the staff, and their ability to lead is reflected in the standard they have set for themselves and this program. Each brings a unique leadership style to our team, which will help with the needs of such a young group this season. They are an inspiration to their peers and a great representation of all that embodies BU Women's Basketball."
Giannaros is BU's leading returning scorer from 2023-24. The Brockton, Mass. native garnered First Team All-Patriot League recognition with a career-best 14.2 points per game, good for fifth in the conference. She also ranked in the top-five across the league in minutes per game (33.4 - fifth), steals (1.7 per game – fourth), and three-pointers per game (2.3 – third).
BU's all-time leader in three-point field goal percentage with a .440 clip, Giannaros has scored 963 points across 82 contests. Her 162 three-pointers are tied for seventh-most in program history.
Semenova set career-bests in her sophomore campaign across the board. The Russian product started 18 of her 28 appearances, establishing personal-bests with eight points and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting over 45 percent from the field. She registered 10 games with 10-plus points, including a career-high 21 points at Lafayette on Jan. 6.
In 50 games as a Terrier, Semenova has made over 45 percent of her shots. She is averaging 5.2 points and 3.4 boards per contest.
Ericksen completed her rookie season as the only Terrier to start all 32 games on the docket. She collected 5.6 points and 3.1 caroms per game, and tied for second on the team with 18 blocks. Reaching double digits in scoring six times, her season-best output was 17 points in victories over Harvard and Colgate on Dec. 9, 2023 and Jan. 20, respectively.
BU returns eight letterwinners from the 20-win team in 2023-24 that advanced to its second-consecutive Patriot League championship game. The Terriers open the 2024-25 slate on Monday (Nov. 4) at Case Gym against Northeastern as part of a doubleheader with the men's program.
