Terriers Fall to Bucknell, 4-0

BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team dropped a 4-0 contest to Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at New Balance Field.
The Terriers dominated play in the opening half but had nothing to show for it as the teams headed into the break scoreless. Bucknell earned only three corners in the game - all in the third quarter - and scored on two of them before adding two more goals in the fourth to seal the victory.
The Bison got six saves from goalkeeper Sarah Althouse, who earned the shutout with the help of a pair of defensive saves.
BU moves to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in Patriot League play while Bucknell improves to 6-5 with a 3-1 conference mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU had a 10-0 lead in shots by halftime and had the game's first five corners but was unable to take advantage of them.
- On their first corner of the game, the Bison's initial shot rang off the right post but Gianna Puorro collected the rebound on the right side and drilled a low shot to the far boards to open the scoring at 30:55.
- The Terriers appeared to tie the game a few minutes later off a corner but the goal call was overturned after officials determined on video replay that the ball hit the back side of a BU stick.
- The visitors' lead was doubled off a corner in the 43rd minute with Kira Leclercq scoring off assists from Sally Hunter and Nicky Punt.
- Katie Lintz pushed the Bucknell lead to 3-0 at the 46:53 mark when she popped a ball over the head of BU neminder Sophie Ortyl.
- Reese Czajkowski, who assisted on the third goal, got one of her own in the 56th minute to cap the scoring.
GAME NOTES
- BU finished with a 17-8 advantage in shots and doubled up the Bison in corners, 6-3.
- Ortyl made two saves in goal for the Terriers.
- Leclercq and Zip Zwaard each earned a defensive save for the Bison.
UP NEXT
- The Terriers will close their homestand on Monday (Oct. 13) when they face Brown.
- Game time is set for 2 p.m.
