Women’s Basketball Signs Serena Through Team IMPACT

BOSTON – The Boston University women's basketball program announced a new team member, signing 10-year old Serena through Team IMPACT on Wednesday (Oct. 29).
 
Serena, who lives with cerebral palsy, officially signed with the team today at a signing day press conference at Boston University's Eilberg Lounge. She will participate in many activities with the Terriers including games, practices and other team events, over the next two years.

Team IMPACT, a national non-profit organization, has developed a unique multiyear program that matches children facing serious illness and disability with college athletic teams across the country. Based on a clinical model, Team IMPACT guides a symbiotic relationship between teams and children focused on socialization, empowerment, and resilience.
 
Boston University Athletics has worked with Team IMPACT for the past 13 years, matching 17 children across its men's and women's basketball, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, field hockey and men's swimming teams.
 
"Serena has already made such an impact on us, our team and our program," said head coach Melissa Graves. "She has already been a great teammate with us from the way she shows up, going to meals and other sporting events with us and her passion for women's basketball and Boston University. Her great attitude, positive energy and the mental toughness that she's shown our team make her very special. We're so excited to have her as our teammate."
