ORONO, Maine – The Boston University women's ice hockey team (1-8-0, 1-3-0 HE) dropped a 3-1 result to Maine (3-6-1, 1-1-1 HE) on Friday evening at Alfond Arena.

Maine opened the scoring just five seconds into the game and held a 1-0 lead until early in the second. The Terriers scored a short-handed goal 1:06 into the middle frame to tie things up, 1-1. That tie held until midway through the third, when the Black Bears scored their second goal moments after a penalty kill. Maine scored again during a 5-on-3 advantage to build to a 3-1 lead which would hold as the final score.

Junior Neely Nicholson scored BU's lone goal, unassisted. It was her first of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Black Bears opened the scoring 27 seconds into the first to go up 1-0.
Maine was called for hooking at 13:00 but successfully killed the penalty.
At 15:23, Maine was called for roughing.
Sixteen seconds into BU's power play, it was called for body checking, resulting in 4-on-4 on the ice.
Both penalties cleared without a change in score.
Five seconds into the middle stanza, BU went to the box for tripping.
Nicholson won the puck at the BU blue line and raced down the slot to score, shorthanded, tying the game 1-1 at 1:06 in the second.
At the 6:27 mark, Maine was called for holding the stick.
BU did not convert on the power play.
The game remained tied headed into the final frame
Maine was called for holding at the 7:27 mark in the third.
Moments after the penalty cleared, the Black Bears scored to go ahead, 2-1.
Maine went to the box for body checking with 8:57 to play and it was successful on the penalty kill.
BU then went to the box at 13:30 for interference, followed by a body checking call 52 seconds later, to go down 5-on-3 for 1:08.
Maine scored a power-play goal at 15:18 to build a 3-1 lead.
The second penalty cleared without a change in the score.
BU continued to fight back but was held scoreless through the final minutes, falling 3-1.
