AMESBURY, Mass. – Sophomore Mari Pietersen of the No. 13/14 Boston University women's ice hockey team was named the Hockey East defender of the week, the league announced on Monday.
Pietersen backed BU to a 4-1 win over Providence with 36 saves between the posts, setting a career high in the category. The sophomore remains undefeated at Walter Brown Arena this season and allowed the Terriers to win their first game of the year when heading into the third period with a deficit. She bolstered her GAA to 1.83 and her save percentage to .920 with the win. She also helped BU become the only team in Hockey East thus far to sweep its series against Providence.
The award is Pietersen's second of the season after being tabbed player of the week on Jan. 27.
BU will be back in action on Friday (Feb. 14) when it travels to New Hampshire for a 6 p.m. game.
