Terriers Snag Two Wins Over Boston College to Open Spring Slate
March 22, 2025 | Women's Lightweight Rowing
BOSTON – The Boston University lightweight rowing team picked up a pair of wins in its two Varsity 8+ races against Boston College to open the 2025 spring season on Saturday, March 22 on the Charles River.
Temperatures started as low as 35 degrees for the first race but climbed to 47 degrees by the end of the morning. However, wind gusts that reached as high as 21 miles per hour created a cross-headwind with choppy water closer near the starting line.
The day began with the Varsity 8+. Coxed by Heather Shinn and stroked by Mia Seibert, BU executed a fast start in the opening 500 meters to cross the line first with a time of 7:12.4, over seven seconds ahead of the Eagles' 7:19.8.
In the Second Varsity 8+, the Terriers, coxed by Mayberry Mark and stroked by Savanna Jacovini, withstood a ferocious push from Boston College in the final 500 meters for a photo finish. BU was a deck in front at 7:41.0, just seven-tenths ahead of the Eagles.
A five-crew Varsity 4+ race capped the morning. Boston College's "A" crew, the top of four Eagles boats, was ahead by open water at the Mass. Ave. Bridge. The Terriers' boat, coxed by Lylah Nag and stroked by Jasmine Wu, was third with a time of 9:13.4, trailing the Boston College "B" crew by six seconds.
The Terriers shift their attention to next Saturday, March 29, when they face MIT's openweight crew on the Charles River.
