Terriers Win Two Trophies to Conclude Knecht Cup
April 13, 2025 | Women's Lightweight Rowing
CHERRY HILL, N.J. – Competing in the final day of the 2025 Knecht Cup Regatta, the Boston University lightweight rowing program recorded two finals wins to take home the Danielle Kousoulis Memorial Trophy and Ann Harris Smith Memorial Trophy on Sunday along the Cooper River.
BU's Lightweight 8+ retains the Danielle Kousoulis trophy after winning the event for the third straight year. Following up on its runner-up performance from a season ago, the Terriers captured the Ann Harris Smith hardware for the first time in program history.
Sunday began with the Women's Double finals. The Petite Final saw the 2x "B" crew of Nora Hemsley (bow) and Sam Angel (stroke) place fifth, just over a second behind MIT's "A" contingent but nearly 10 seconds over its Wisconsin counterparts.
With two crews in the Grand Final, BU placed third and fourth. The "A" boat of Kylie Lough (bow) and Cece Mason (stroke) earned the bronze in 8:01.04, while the "C" group with Emilia Vukasinovic (bow) and Zoe Meurer (stroke) right behind at 8:08.76.
BU earned another medal in the Lightweight 4+ Final. The "A" crew, coxed by Mira Saldanha and stroked by Rosa Beckert, engaged in a duel with Wisconsin. The Badgers would place first, with the Terriers gaining the silver medal in 7:59.55. The "B" crew, coxed by Katie Lee and stroked by Jasmine Wu, was fifth with a time of 8:24.68.
The Terrier Varsity 4+, coxed by Heather Shinn and stroked by Rosa Beckert, competed in the final against six crews in a tightly-contested race. While the top four crews finished within two full lengths of each other starting with first-place Lafayette, BU was fifth in 7:58.82.
Next up was the Lightweight 8+ Final. BU, coxed by Heather Shinn and stroked by Mia Seibert, was pitted against crews from Harvard-Radcliffe, Georgetown, Wisconsin and MIT. BU and Radcliffe separated themselves from the pack early, and the Terriers built just over a full length lead over Radcliffe in the last 500 meters to cross the line first in 6:44.30, nearly four seconds ahead of Radcliffe.
The Petite Final followed up for the Second Varsity 8+, with BU's crew coxed by Lylah Nag and stroked by Cece Mason. Finding itself locked into a battle with Canisius and Ithaca, the Terriers were fifth in 7:32.80, about three seats behind the Golden Griffins and a 1.7-second difference. BU fended off the sixth-place Bombers by four seats.
Sunday closed with the Varsity 8+ for the Ann Harris Smith Memorial Trophy. The Terriers, coxed by Mayberry Mark and stroked by Mia Seibert, pulled in front halfway through after the opening 500 meters saw multiple lead changes between the Terriers, Bucknell and MIT. BU kept a three-seat lead over MIT for most of the final stretch to win in 6:40.43, 1.21 seconds in front of the Engineers.
The Terriers return to the Charles River on Saturday, April 19 to face Harvard-Radcliffe and MIT in the Beanpot.
