LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Boston University men's tennis team earned its first win of the 2025 season as it took down Loyola Maryland 4-3 in the first round of the Patriot League tournament.
The ninth-seeded Terriers (1-13, 0-6 PL), playing with five active players, managed to win four singles matches to pull out the win over No. 8 seed Loyola Maryland (2-17, 0-6 PL).
At doubles, the Terriers dropped line three by default and the Greyhounds secured a win at line one to secure that point, with
Gabe Brown and
Jonah Dickson falling 4-6 to Loyola Maryland.
The Greyhounds were awarded a win at line six as the Terriers did not have a player to play sixth singles.
Brown was the first Terrier to pick up a point, dispatching of his opponent 6-2, 6-4 to make it 2-1 Loyola. The Terriers dropped a point at line five, as Barki fell 2-6, 3-6 to his opponent.
Then it was Dickson's turn to earn a point for BU, as he won 6-4, 6-3 at third singles. Knutsen followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win over his opponent at line three, tying the match at 3-3.
The deciding match fell to freshman
Ege Topkoc, who pulled out his first collegiate singles win at line four, battling for three sets to come out on top 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in 2:33 of action and deliver BU its first win of the year.
The Terriers have set up a rematch of the 2024 Patriot League final match, where they beat Navy 4-3 to win their first Patriot League title. They will play Navy Friday, April 18 at 9 a.m. at Bucknell.
