Men's Tennis Bows Out of PL Tournament With Loss to Navy

LEWISBURG, Pa. — The No. 9-seeded Boston University men's tennis team bowed out of the Patriot League tournament in the quarterfinals as top-seeded Navy came out on top, 4-0.

The Terriers (1-14, 0-6 PL) picked up their first win of the season on Thursday, but could not muster much of a fight on Friday, dropping the doubles point in just 16 minutes before the Midshipmen (23-14, 8-0 PL) rolled to a sweep.

BU only had five active players available, meaning Navy would win third doubles and sixth singles by default before the match began.

The Midshipmen took the doubles point by clinching at first doubles, with their top pair taking down senior Gabe Brown and graduate student Jonah Dickson, 6-0.

The Terriers had more of a fight at singles, but freshman Jaydon Barki dropped line four and only won three games, finishing at 1-6, 2-6 in 1:09.

Senior Cole Knutsen was in a close first set, only losing 4-6, but the Mids' number two player overpowered him in set two with a 6-1 to clinch their spot in the semifinal.

Brown had split sets at line one, going 6-2, 1-6 before the match was clinched by Navy, and Dickson had also split sets at line three with a 7-6 (7-4), 2-6 score.

Freshman Ege Topkoc – who won the clinching match in the first round against Loyola Maryland – was down 2-6, 0-4 at line four.

The Terriers will move on from their senior class of Knutsen, Dickson, Brown and Dion Loutas as the 2024-25 season wraps up.
