April 18, 2025

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Devin Kaplan became the 100th Boston University men's ice hockey player to skate in the National Hockey League when he made his NHL debut with the Philadelphia Flyers on April 17 in Buffalo.

Kaplan, a third-round selection of the Flyers in the 2022 draft, signed a three-year deal with Philadelphia and immediately reported to the club. He played over 12 minutes in his debut, a 5-4 loss to the Sabres. A native of Bridgewater, New Jersey, Kaplan played in 115 games for the Terriers and helped them advance to the Frozen Four in each of his three seasons at BU. He scored 25 goals and added 39 assists for 64 points, including two goals in the 2025 Beanpot semifinals. Kaplan was named to the 2023 Hockey East All-Tournament Team after helping the Terriers capture the league championship.

Kaplan became the third Terrier from the 2024-25 squad to make his NHL debut, as classmates Ryan Greene and Quinn Hutson played for the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers, respectively. In addition, former BU captain Domenick Fensore ('23) became the 99th Terrier to skate in the NHL when he made his debut for the Carolina Hurricanes on April 16. BU is now the fourth school to produce 100+ National Hockey League players.
