Lightweight Rowing Takes On Bates for Sunday Races

BOSTON – Wrapping up its third consecutive weekend on the Charles River, the Boston University lightweight rowing program matches up against Bates on Sunday, April 6. Live results for Sunday's races can be found on HereNow using the link at the top of the article.

- 8:00 a.m. - Varsity 8+
- 8:30 a.m. - Second Varsity 8+
- 9:00 a.m. - Varsity 4+
- The Terriers battled MIT's openweight crew amidst choppy conditions last Saturday, March 29 on the Charles River.
- Shortening the races to a pair of eights, the Engineers prevailed in both the Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+.
- In the latest Pocock CRCA Week 3 Lightweight Coaches Poll, released on April 1, all three BU crews were ranked top-two in the nation.
- BU's reigning national champion double is ranked first, while the 8+ and 4+ are both second.
- Princeton ranks first in the latter two categories and trails BU's 2x in the former.
- Bates opens its spring slate on Saturday, April 5 against Simmons and MIT's lightweight crew.
- Back in the fall, the Bobcats' Varsity 8+ placed fifth out of 34 crews in the Women's Collegiate Eights at the Head of the Charles, crossing the finish line in 17:33.270.
- In the 2024 New England Championships, Bates' Second Varsity 8+ and top Varsity 8+ crew were first and second, respectively, in the Petite Final. The Third Varsity 8+ was sixth in the Grand Final.
- BU and Bates will square off for the fourth straight spring.
- The Terriers have been victorious over the Bobcats across all seven events in that stretch.
- Last year, BU was first in the Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+ against Bates and Boston College, with the former clocking in at 6:50.9.
- BU travels down to the Knecht Cup next weekend. Racing begins on Saturday, April 12 on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
