Lofquist Breaks Outdoor Pole Vault Record at UMass Flagship Spring Opener

AMHERST, Mass. — Graduate student Alli Lofquist led the Boston University track & field program as she broke the outdoor school record in the pole vault at the UMass Flagship Opener on Saturday.

Lofquist reached a height of 3.81m in the pole vault, setting a new outdoor PR. This is her second record broken this year, after she broke the indoor record at the Valentine Invitational with a 3.92m clearance.

The previous record was 3.77m, set by Andrea Stuermer in 2003.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

Sophomore Anna Fawcett won the 1500m with a 4:36.92 time and was followed by freshman Luna Scorzelli in third, with a 4:38.39 time.
Senior Olivia Duca finished third in the 800m with a 2:18.77 mark.
Sophomore Marcus Guidry posted a 1:56.34 time in the 800m to take second.
Freshman James American Horse crossed the line in 14:49.12 to take second in the 5000m.
In the men's 1500m, junior Glenn Bell finisheed third with a 4:53.94 mark and junior Caiden Lee took fourth with a 3:54.75 time.
Junior Madison Sorrell won the shot put with a 13.22m heave and finished third in the discus, flinging it 38.04m.
Freshman Luke Riordan competed in three events, finishing second in the shot put (14.95m), fourth in the discus (38.36m) and seventh in the hammer throw (48.14m).
Senior Asia Hamilton took second in the high jump after eclipsing a bar of 1.63m.
Freshman Mykhaylo Hychka claimed fourth place in the hammer throw with a 49.74m toss.

BU will next head to the Duke Invitational (April 10-12), the UMass Multi-Meet (April 9-10) and the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell (April 12-13).
