BOSTON – The Boston University lightweight rowing program is set to participate in the 122nd running of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship Regatta from Saturday, May 31 to Sunday, June 1 on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
BU has three entries in the event with its Lightweight 8+, 4+ and Double. Racing begins at Noon for the Terriers on Saturday. Both days will stream live on Overnght.com with live results posted on Regatta Timing. Fans looking to attend the IRA Championship can view the IRA's website using the link above for pertinent information.
SCHEDULE – SATURDAY, MAY 31
- Noon – Lightweight 2x (Heat 1)
- Vs. Stanford, Georgetown, Gordon
- 12:16 p.m. – Lightweight 4+ Heat
- Vs. Stanford, Wisconsin, Princeton, Harvard-Radcliffe, Georgetown, MIT
- 12:24 p.m. – Lightweight 8+ Heat
- Stanford, Princeton, Harvard-Radcliffe, Georgetown, Wisconsin
POLL POSITION
- The final Pocock CRCA Lightweight Poll of the season was released on May 20.
- BU's Lightweight 8+ and 4+ each slotted third, trailing Princeton and Radcliffe but ahead of Georgetown and Wisconsin.
- The Terrier 2x has remained in first with a four-point lead over the Tigers and eight-point lead over the Badgers.
LAST TIME OUT
- BU last competed on Sunday, May 4 at the Eastern Sprints, finishing second as a team to Princeton.
- The Terriers earned three gold medals in its two Doubles crews and the Lightweight 4+ "B" entry.
- The top 4+ as well as the Lightweight 8+ captured bronze medals.
LAST TIME AT THE IRA CHAMPIONSHIP
- BU's Lightweight Double collected its fourth national title in program history, while the Lightweight 4+ reached the podium for the fifth straight year en route to the program's third silver medal.
- The Lightweight 8+ was fourth to help the Terriers finish third as a team.
- BU has earned a top three spot in the team standings for the last eight times that all lightweight crews have competed for the team trophy.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The finals begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 1 with the Doubles races.
