Varsity 8 Victory Highlights Lightweight Rowing’s Spring Debut Against Eagles

BOSTON – The Boston University lightweight rowing team ignited its 2026 spring schedule on Saturday (March 21), racing three crews against Boston College's openweight program on the Charles River. BU earned a win in the Varsity 8 to once again retain the annual Gummy Bear Bowl trophy.
Overcast skies dominated the morning until the final race, but minimal wind gusts provided smoother water for the morning races. Temperatures hovered in the low- to mid-40s.
The day began with the Varsity 8, coxed by Mira Saldanha and stroked by Caroline Burchette. In a tight race for a majority of the 2,000 meters, the Terriers gained a couple of seats in the final push to cross the line in 7:07.5, three seats ahead of Boston College at 7:09.7 for its third consecutive victory.
The Terrier Second Varsity 8, coxed by Amna Rezvi and stroked by Mia Seibert, squared off against a pair of Eagle eights. Sandwiched in between the Boston College boats, BU gave a challenge to the Eagles' 2V, but Boston College built a gradual lead over the first 1,500 meters and finished six seats in front of the Terriers. BU clocked in at 7:04.0, over nine seconds in front of the Eagles' 3V.
BU capped the morning with its Varsity 4, coxed by Lylah Nag and stroked by Sidra Sanders. Against three other Boston College crews, the Terriers placed second in 7:59.8 while Boston College's top V4 was one length ahead.
The Terriers break from competition before facing off against MIT's openweight crews on Saturday (April 4).
