Boston University Athletics Surpasses $5 Million Mark in 2025 Fiscal Year
July 17, 2025 | General
BOSTON – Through the continued support of alumni, parents and friends, coupled with multiple transformative gifts, the Boston University Department of Athletics raised over $5.4 million in cash and pledges during the 2025 fiscal year.
For the third consecutive year, BU raised more than $5 million overall and $2 million+ through its Annual Fund. This substantial funding aims to enhance the current student-athlete experience and prioritize team initiatives.
Notable highlights also include:
Giving Day: On April 9, the Department of Athletics raised nearly $1.2 million during Giving Day, marking its eighth consecutive year surpassing the $1 million milestone. This annual event brought the total raised for Terrier student-athletes to over $11 million. Athletics contributed 27 percent of the campus-wide record of $4.5 million. Women's soccer and men's rowing set new program fundraising records, with men's rowing becoming the first team to exceed $300,000 and ranking fourth among all campus units. The campaign drew 2,731 donors, including strong support from alumni-athletes, parents and friends. Participation within the department was equally impressive, with 99 percent of student-athletes and 98 percent of staff making a gift.
Terriers Together: The Terriers Together fundraising campaign from October 15-17 raised over $361,000 through more than 1,100 gifts, a 10% increase from last year. Each head coach identified specific priorities to direct funds toward critical needs such as equipment, nutrition, recruiting and out-of-region travel. The campaign, boosted by two challenges from Carrie and Tim Burr (MET'97), secured more than 1,000 contributions for the fifth consecutive year. Notably, young alumni from the classes of 2015 to 2024 played a key role, with 163 participants, a 50% increase from last year.
Young Alumni Participation: In 2024-25, 37% of athletics young alumni (classes of 2015-24) made a gift in support of their program. Matching challenges were created as part of the Giving Day and Terriers Together campaigns, and the Athletics Young Alumni Council, chaired by Emily Redito (Questrom'16), continues to engage young alumni with their teams, the Department and University.
Parent Participation: Parents and families are integral members of the Boston University community, and their involvement with Terrier Athletics significantly impacts the day-to-day experience of student-athletes. This year, 14 families made gifts of $10,000 or more, qualifying for membership as part of the Boston University Parents Leadership Council.
Major Gifts and Planned Gifts: New endowments were established to directly support the needs of Men's Ice Hockey and Women's Openweight Rowing—expanding the number of varsity programs benefiting from endowed resources to nine.
In a powerful show of commitment to advancing women's sports, the Castronovo Family Endowment for Women's Athletics was created to champion and sustain BU's varsity women's programs well into the future.
Several commitments were made in support capital projects and multiple transformative planned gifts, made through individual estates, were also received—ensuring lasting impact and future support for Terrier student-athletes.
