BOSTON – The Boston University women's ice hockey team (7-12-3, 5-7-2 HE) dropped a 4-2 result to Holy Cross (16-7-1, 8-6-1 HE) on Saturday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

Holy Cross opened the scoring and BU tied things up all within the first minute of play. The Crusaders took a 2-1 lead before the close of the frame and tacked on its third goal of the day midway through the second. BU switched its netminder in the second frame and prevented the Crusaders from scoring until late in the third, when they did so on an empty net. BU cut into Holy Cross' lead, 4-2, shortly thereafter but could not close the gap, ultimately falling to the Crusaders.

Junior Neely Nicholson lit the lamp for the Terriers while senior Luisa Welcke scored BU's second goal of the game. Seniors Lilli Welcke and Lu. Welcke and sophomore Keira Healey registered assists. Junior Mari Pietersen played the first half of the game, making 14 stops. Freshman Jackie Wright made her collegiate debut, playing the rest of the game and saving seven shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Holy Cross opened the scoring with a goal 37 seconds into the first.
BU responded quickly when Li. Welcke and Lu. Welcke worked the puck out from behind the net to Nicholson, whose net front shot evened the score, 1-1, at the 1:54 mark.
The Crusaders went up 2-1 with 3:47 to play in the first.
The Terriers were called for cross checking with 13:43 to go in the second.
BU was successful on the penalty kill.
Holy Cross took a 3-1 lead at the 12:38 mark.
BU swapped Pietersen for Wright in net with 4:33 to play in the middle stanza.
With 6:04 to go in the third, BU went to the box for interference.
The Terriers spent most of the penalty kill in the Holy Cross end but did not convert through the Holy Cross advantage.
BU pulled Wright from the posts at 16:20 and the Crusaders scored on the empty net to take a 4-1 lead.
After a shot from Holy Cross went wide, K. Healey collected the puck and passed to Lu. Welcke, who dodged multiple Crusaders to score from the near post, cutting into the lead 4-2.
BU continued to pull Wright from the posts in favor of an extra skater, but it could not find the back of the net.
The Terriers were called for high sticking with two seconds to play, but the score remained 4-2 in Holy Cross' favor.

GAME NOTES

BU outshot Holy Cross, 28 to 25.
Holy Cross was 0-for-3 on the power play and BU had no power-play chances.
BU blocked six shots compared to the Crusaders' 27.
Lu. Welcke led BU in points with two.
