WINCHESTER, Mass. – The Boston University women's tennis team opened its season with a dominant 7-0 win over Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon at the Winchester Tennis Club.

In doubles, sophomore Gabriella Mikaul and junior Blanka DeMicheli teamed in the top spot to take down their URI opponents, 6-1. After URI won its doubles point on line two, senior Emily Zhao and freshman Vasilisa Borisova took down their URI opponents on line three, 6-3, to help BU secure t6he doubles point.

In singles, freshman Lauren Ke4ttlewell got things started for the Terriers with a win at the No. 6 slot in a 6-2, 6-1. Zhao backed her up with a straight sets win at line five, 6-1, 6-2. N. Liu gave BU its third point with a 6-3, 6-1 win at line two. DeMicheli clinched the victory for BU with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win at line four to help the Terriers to their first win of the season.

Play continued on the remaining courts with Mikaul finishing next at the No. 1 spot with a 6-3, 6-4 win. Junior Ellie Gyuro wrapped up the day at line three with a 6-3, 6-4 win.

The Terriers will be back in action on Sunday with an 11 a.m. match at Harvard.
