BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Boston University women's ice hockey team (9-16-3, 7-10-2 HE) was shut out, 3-0, by Vermont (13-14-4, 7-9-3 HE) on Thursday evening at the Gutterson Fieldhouse.

Vermont opened the scoring 10 seconds after puck drop to take a 1-0 lead. The Catamounts scored a shorthanded goal in the second and took a 3-0 lead early in the third to complete the shutout performance.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Ten seconds into the game, Vermont took a 1-0 lead.
BU was called for holding at the 11:49 mark and successfully killed the penalty.
Vermont was called for holding with 3:59 to go in the first and there was no change in score through the penalty.
Just under two minutes into the second period, Vermont was called for hooking and kept the Terriers from scoring during the power play.
BU went to the box for holding at the 4:44 mark and was successful on the penalty kill once again.
At 8:03, Vermont was called for interference.
The Catamounts scored a shorthanded goal to take a 2-0 lead with 1:27 left on the Terrier power play.
Vermont went back to the box at the 10:09 mark, this time for hooking, and kept BU scoreless through the advantage.
The Catamounts then took a 3-0 lead at 4:29 in the third period.
BU continued to apply pressure through the rest of the period, but it was not enough, as it came up short to Vermont, 3-0.

GAME NOTES

Vermont outshot BU, 23 to 18.
BU was 0-for-4 on the power play while Vermont was 0-for-2.
The Terriers blocked five shots and the Catamounts blocked 12.
Junior Mari Pietersen made 20 saves in net.

UP NEXT

BU returns home to host Maine on Saturday (Feb. 7) for a 4 p.m. game.
