FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. - Freshman Wendy Li won the individual title at the SHU Spring Break Invite by a single stroke as the Boston University women's golf team placed fourth in its spring opener at Eagle Harbor Golf Club on Tuesday.
Li finished the day where she started as she held a one-stroke lead entering the final round and held off the competition with a 77 on Tuesday to edge Fairfield's Addie Change and Manhattan's Jayden Peters by a stroke for her first collegiate title. On the 18th hole, Li hit a wayward drive into the woods, but got the ball back in the fairway and then hit a wedge from 86 yards out to four feet of the hole. She went on to sink the putt for the par save and the victory.
Junior Amy Han secured her third top-10 finish of the season, placing seventh at plus-9 (74-79--153). Senior Annika Manjunath had BU's best round of the day with plus-2 74 to finish at plus-13 along with junior Hibiki Adachi (74-83--157).
In her first collegiate tournament, freshman Monica Wu ended up in 22nd place with rounds of 74 and 83 for a plus-15 finish. Classmate Sophia Zhang placed 27th at plus-20 (81-83--164), one stroke ahead of junior Madison Takai (83-82--165).
BU placed fourth among six teams with a score of 624 (303-321). Tournament host Sacred Heart used a late charge to defeat Manhattan by one stroke for the team title.
The Terriers will return to action on March 30-31 when they participate in the GSU Invitational at Rivermont Golf Club in Johns Creek, Georgia.
