BOSTON – The Boston University men's rowing program will compete in the 123rd installment of the IRA National Championship Regatta this weekend, beginning racing on Friday (May 29) on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif.

BU will send out four crews on the water: the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, Third Varsity 8 and Varsity 4. The three eights participate in heats on Friday (May 29) for placement into Saturday's semifinals. The Varsity 4 will compete in time trials prior to the Friday finals later that afternoon.

Tickets for fans attending the regatta are available on the IRA's official website. All sessions will stream live on Overnght.com with a paid subscription. Live results are also available on Regatta Timing.

FRIDAY RACE SCHEDULE (MAY 29)

8:32 a.m. PT – Varsity 8
- Heat 3, Lane 3 vs. Harvard, Northeastern, Wisconsin, Holy Cross, MIT
- Top 3 advance to the AB Semifinals, the remainder to the CD semifinals
9:28 a.m. PT – Second Varsity 8
- Heat 4, Lane 4 vs. Cal, Syracuse, Yale, La Salle, Georgetown
- Top 3 advance to the AB Semifinals, the remainder to the CD semifinals
9:52 a.m. PT – Third Varsity 8
- Heat 3, Lane 3 vs. Princeton, Syracuse, Cornell, Wisconsin
- Top 3 advance to the AB Semifinals, the remainder to the CD semifinals
11:30 a.m. PT – Varsity 4 Time Trials
4 p.m. ET through 4:32 p.m. PT – Varsity 4 Semifinals
- ABC semifinals: Top 2 to the A final, Next 2 to the B final
- DE semifinals: Top 3 to the D final, the remainder to the E final

LAST TIME OUT

All four of BU's crews posted top-10 finishes at the Eastern Sprints on May 17, including a Grand Final appearance for the Fourth Varsity 8.
The Varsity 8, Third Varsity 8 and 4V finished eighth overall, ninth and sixth, respectively, all of which were improvements from the prior year.
The Second Varsity 8 placed 10th overall.

POLL POSITION

In the final IRCA/IRA weekly polls of the season, released on May 22, BU's 1V and 3V checked in at 11th.
The 2V was in 13th place.
Overall, the Terriers were slotted in 12th among the Ten Eyck Team Points, trailing Syracuse, Penn and Yale while ranking over Cornell and Columbia.

LAST YEAR AT THE IRA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA

As a team, the Terriers were 14th in the Ten Eyck Team Points at the 2025 IRA National Championship on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
BU generated 131 team points, finishing ahead of Navy for a top-15 spot.
Both the 2V and 3V reached the Petite Finals to place 12th in the nation.
Washington was the overall winner with Harvard and California rounding out the podium.
