Gerry was a three-sport athlete at Cambridge Latin, but
concetrated on hockey and baseball by the time he matriculated
to Boston University.
He led the hockey team in scoring in his three seasons on
the varsity, 1936, '37, and '38, and captained the team his
senior year. He also formed a line with Al Carvelli and Albie
Woodward which led the nation in scoring with 61 goals in
only 15 games in 1938.
Desrosiers was named "Outstanding College Hockey Player
of the Year" in 1938, and earned All-New England honors
as a junior and All-New England and All-Eastern as a senior.
On the diamond, he compiled a .750 winning percentage as
a pitcher in three years on the varsity and upon graduation
pursued a professional baseball career for a few years.
