Bennett arrived in Boston in May, 2018 after spending the prior 14 seasons as the head women's basketball coach at Skidmore College.

In his third season with the Terriers, Bennett helped the Terriers match their best record through 12 games at 10-2 during the regular season and finished second in the conference standings for the second straight season. BU made its first Patriot League Tournament championship game appearance and led the league in shooting percentage (.454). Furthermore, Bennet was instrumental in aiding Katie Nelson and Sydney Johnson earn All-Patriot League honors, as Nelson was recognized on the First Team and Johnson was named to the Second Team.

During the 2019-20 season, the Terriers finished conference play with a 12-6 record and went 18-12 overall. Working primarily with the guards, Bennett guided Maggie Pina to earn Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors along with Katie Nelson earning All-Patriot League Second Team status. Pina additionally earned a spot on the All-Patriot League Third Team after leading the league in 3-point field goals per game and joined Maren Durant and Sydney Johnson on the All-Rookie Team.

In his first season in Boston, Bennett aided the Terriers to post their best regular season finish in Patriot League games and match their best conference record with an 11-7 mark, and aided Payton Hauck and Katie Nelson to earn All-Patriot League honors. Additionally, he guided Lauren Spearman to lead the league in 3-pointers per game (2.3) and Nelson to rank third in assists per game (3.7).

Under Bennett's watch at Skidmore, the Thoroughbreds logged a 193-166 record and made two NCAA Tournament appearances. Additionally, Bennett guided 15 Thoroughbreds to earn All-Liberty League honors and coached Kelly Donnelly to be named a three-time WBCA All-American.

Prior to arriving at Skidmore in 2004, Bennett served as an assistant coach at the Division I level for six seasons. Bennett spent one season on the staff at Michigan State as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Prior to Michigan State, Bennett served in the same role at Syracuse University for three seasons and additionally spent two seasons at Temple University.

The Fitchburg, Massachusetts native was a member of Springfield College's football team for four years and competed on the basketball team for three years. He graduated in 1995 with a degree in health and fitness before obtaining his master's in health education in 1997.
