Stephen Fleagle joined the Boston University track & field staff as pole vaults coach in September, 2019.
During the 2020-21 outdoor season, Fleagle's second at BU, he coached five Terriers to personal-best performances in the pole vault. At the PL Outdoor Championship, Fleagle coached three vaulters to top ten finishes, including Declan Ritzenthaler who finished sixth on the men's side with a vault of 4.68 meters (15' 4.5").
During the 2019-20 indoor season, Fleagle's first at BU, he coached senior Zoe Beard to an appearance at the ECAC Championships where she successfully vaulted 3.65m (11' 11.75") which equaled her personal best and is the second-best vault in Terrier history.
Before joining the Terriers, Fleagle served as the head coach at Luther College for the 2019 season after serving as an assistant at the University of Chicago from 2012-2019. While at University of Chicago, Stephen helped coach 11 athletes and 7 relays to 31 NCAA national meet appearances that led to 10 All-American honors. In 2014 he helped guide pole vaulter Michael Bennett to an undefeated season and a national championship at the NCAA III Indoor National Championships and a runner-up finish at the Outdoor National Championships.
Stephen also coached four different women at national meets in the high jump with three competing and placing in the top half of the field at the 2018 NCAA outdoor championships.
Prior to coaching at University of Chicago he was an assistant coach for cross country and track and field at North Central from 2010-12. Stephen graduated from North Central College with a degree in exercise science and a minor in wellness in 2008. In June 2012, he received his master's in sports leadership.
