Gifted and versatile most accurately describe the athletic abilities of Alfreda "Freddie" Cleveland, a 1960 graduate who excelled in six sports at the University's Sargent College.
She competed for the field hockey, lacrosse, volleyball, badminton, basketball, and tennis teams, helping each one to success. In her senior year she earned the Class of 1960 "Winged Victory" Gold Medal, an honor presented annually to the top female athlete in Sargent.
Freddie represented Sargent College at the Northeast Collegiate Tennis Tournament, and advanced to the quarterfinal round before finally bowing to the eventual champion. Overall, she placed among the top eight players in a field of 128.
Following college, Freddie continued her sporting endeavors and was Most Valuable Player of the 1962 New England AAU Basketball Tournament. In all, her cage career spanned eight seasons in the Boston Park League. She also competed on a national level in field hockey, appearing in five national tournaments, and was among the top squash and badminton players in the Northeast.
