No. 14/13 Terriers Skate Past Brown, 3-1
October 10, 2026 | Men's Ice Hockey
BOSTON - Sophomore Ben Merrill's goal 6:40 into the third period broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the No. 14/13 Boston University men's ice hockey team to a 3-1 exhibition win over Brown on Saturday night at Agganis Arena.
BU got out to a 1-0 lead thanks to senior Mick Frechette's goal, but the Bears evened the score at 15:19 of the second stanza. Merrill's tip-in of junior Adam Barone's shot pulled BU back in front before senior captain Jack Harvey iced the game with an empty-net goal.
Junior Kamil Bednarik assisted on the Terriers' first two goals while Barone, freshman Niklas Aaram-Olsen and sophomores Ryder Ritchie and Carter Amico each had one assist. Senior goaltender Max Lacroix was sharp all night, making 22 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman Xavier Villeneuve sent classmate Caleb Malhotra in on a breakaway midway through the first, but Fred Halyk (45 saves) made a nice glove stop to keep the game scoreless.
- Frechette broke through with 3:29 remaining in the first with a shot from the top of the circle.
- Lacroix nifty pad save early in the second on a grade-A opportunity to keep Brown off the board, but the Bears eventually broke through late in the frame.
- Merrill gave BU the lead for good when he deftly redirected a well-placed Barone shot.
- Harvey made it 3-1 with an empty-net goal. Ritchie sent a long-distance chance towards the vacant cage that was just wide, but Harvey was first on the scene to collect the puck and slide it over the line.
