October 4, 2026 | Men's Ice Hockey
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Freshman Haoxi (Simon) Wang's first collegiate goal early in the third period broke a scoreless tie and helped propel the No. 16/15 Boston University men's ice hockey team to a 4-0 win over Alaska on Saturday night at the Carlson Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU dominated the first period thanks in part to three power-play opportunities, generating 35 shot attempts to just five for Alaska. However, the Nanooks killed off all three penalties they took and held the Terriers to just nine shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes.
- BU nearly struck first with a shorthanded goal midway through the second stanza, but after video review it was determined the puck was kicked in and the game remained scoreless.
- Yegorov made a nice stop on a 2-on-1 chance late in the second on Alaska's best chance of the night up to that point.
- Wang finally broke through at 3:43 of the third period. Svoboda dropped the puck for Wang who used a nifty toe drag to elude his defender before uncorking a shot past Tyler Shea (25).
- BU then had a five-minute power play following a major penalty but was unable to capitalize.
- Bednarik doubled the Terriers' lead with 8:46 remaining in regulation when he picked off a pass in the neutral zone, skated through the defense and zipped a puck through Shea's pads.
- The Nanooks pushed to get on the board following Bednarik's goal but Yegorov and the Terrier defense held strong.
- After matching penalties created a 4-on-4 situation with 4:28 to play, Alaska pulled Shea in favor of an extra attacker.
- BU iced the game when Harvey made an unselfish play to feed Malhotra in front of an empty net.
- Lawrence then sent a long-range shot into the vacant cage after a great blocked shot by Murtagh to complete the scoring.
- Yegorov did not allow an even-strength goal all weekend.
- BU went 3-for-3 on the penalty kill in Saturday's win.
- The Terriers attempted 84 shots and allowed just 46 shot attempts on Saturday.
- Lawrence finished the weekend with three points (2g, 1a).
- Murtagh and Harvey had a point in each victory.
- BU will return home to host Brown for an exhibition game on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Agganis Arena.
- Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.Â
