Men's Ice Hockey Skates Past Vermont, 4-1, to Advance to Hockey East Quarterfinals
March 11, 2026 | Men's Ice Hockey
BOSTON - Sophomore Cole Eiserman notched three points and classmate Mikahil Yegorov made 25 saves to help lead the Boston University men's ice hockey team to a 4-1 win over Vermont in a Hockey East opening-round contest on Wednesday night at Agganis Arena.
Sixth-seeded BU (17-16-2) and 11th-seeded Vermont (13-21-1) were tied at 1-1 entering the third period, but Eiserman's second goal of the night at 6:51 of the final frame broke the deadlock for good. Eiserman then assisted on sophomore Cole Hutson's power-play goal with 7:24 remaining in regulation. Junior Jack Harvey iced the game with an empty-netter at the 17:15 mark.
Hutson assisted on Eiserman's opening goal of the game as part of his two-point night and junior captain Gavin McCarthy assisted on both power-play goals. Freshman Tynan Lawrence and sophomore Kamil Bednarik each had one assist.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU capitalized on its first power-play chance of the night with 2:44 left in the opening period. On a re-entry into the offensive zone, all four Catamounts were focused on Hutson carrying the puck, which allowed him to find a wide-open Eiserman in the right circle for a one-timer that got past Aiden Wright (24 saves).
- The Catamounts responded at 2:51 of the second stanza to tie the game at 1-1.
- Eiserman restored the Terriers' lead just 6:51 into the third period. Lawrence kept the puck in at the blue line and then outworked his defender to the puck below the right circle. Lawrence then slipped the puck past two Catamounts and right to Eiserman, who was all alone in front of the net. Eiserman made no mistake for his 18th goal of the season.
- Hutson gave BU some insurance at the 12:36 juncture of the third when his shot whistled through traffic and past Wright.
- UVM pulled Wright to create a 6-on-4 power play with 4:48 to play and BU eventually scored just as the penalty expired, with Harvey finding the vacant cage to create the 4-1 final.
- This was the Terriers' 16th straight Hockey East tournament win at Agganis Arena.
- The Terriers improved to 4-2-0 all-time against Vermont in the league playoffs.
- BU advanced to the Hockey East quarterfinals for the 16th straight time.
- The Terriers went 2-for-3 on the power play and killed both of UVM's man advantages.
- Eiserman has scored a goal in five straight games, totaling 10 points (6g, 4a) in that span.
- McCarthy has recorded five points (2g, 3a) during his three-game point streak.
- Hutson has collected seven points (2g, 5a) in his last five appearances.
- Harvey has notched five points (4g, 1a) in the last four tilts.
- BU will travel to third-seeded UConn on Saturday for a Hockey East quarterfinal contest.
- Puck drop on NESN+ and ESPN+ is set for 1 p.m.
