Terriers Honored At Soccer Awards Banquet

BOSTON - The 2004 America East Champion Boston University Terriers were honored for their efforts at the team's annual awards banquet on Saturday, Feb. 5.
The senior class of Federico Bianchi (Pacific Palisades, CA), Brian Conway (Northville, MI), and Erik Evjen (Askim, Norway) shared the Most Valuable Player honors. Conway also received the team's Scholar-Athlete Award. Red-shirt Freshman Derek Puerta (Pawtucket, RI) was named the team's Most Improved Player while classmate Roland Erlichman (Paradise Valley, AZ) was named the Most Outstanding Freshman.
Bianchi started all 77 games during his career, totaling 17 goals and 18 assists for 52 career points. The midfielder scored two goals during the 2004 America East Tournament, earning Championship Most Outstanding Player honors.
Appearing in 53 games during his career, Conway enjoyed his strongest season as a senior, appearing in all 21 games while earning nine starts. The versatile midfielder provided the heroics during the Terriers post-season run, scoring the game-winning shootout goals against Binghamton in the America East Title game on Nov. 14 and against Dartmouth in the NCAA First Round game on Nov. 19. A two-time America East Academic Honor Roll selection, Conway also was honored with the Scholar-Athlete Award.
Evjen started all 21 games in 2004, anchoring a Terrier defense that allowed 1.37 goals a game. A four-time All-Conference selection, Evjen appeared in 72 games during his career.
After sitting out the 2003 season. Puerta appeared in 14-of-21 games in 2004, including six in the starting lineup. The freshman back appeared in all four post-season games including the two America East Championship games and the two NCAA Tournament games.
An America East All-Rookie Team selection, Erlichman was selected as the Terriers Most Outstanding Freshman in 2004. The forward led B.U. in scoring with a team-high nine goals and five assists for 23 points. Erlichman became the first Terrier freshman in a decade to lead the team in scoring. The last B.U. rookie to lead the team in scoring was All-American Nick Bone, who totaled 18 goals and seven assists for 43 points in 1994.
In addition to the awards, head coach Neil Roberts also announced that rising seniors Matt Cross (Pembroke, MA) and Jamie Johnson (Brisbane, Australia), and rising junior Chad Comroe (Dallas, TX) will captain the team next year.
