Terriers Get Strong Performance at Tufts Snowflake Classic

BOSTON - The Boston University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams finished strong at the Tufts Snowflake Classic on Saturday, April 1. In just the second meet of the season the women's team, lead by sophomore Tahari James (Branford, Conn.) and freshman Rebecca Marshburn (Dana Point, Calif.) who each placed first in two events, finished second overall. The men's team finished fourth behind five individual first place finishes, including freshman Jun Dambara (Tokyo, Japan) in the high jump and junior Matt Howard (San Antonio, Texas) in the 400 meters.

James finished first in the 200 meters with a time of 25.49, while also placing first in the long jump with a distance of 5.87 meters (19'3"). Marshburn took the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.31, while also finishing first in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.31.

Also finishing first for the Terriers were junior Melanie Piccolo (Long Island, N.Y.) in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.81, senior Vicki Lopez (Queens, N.Y.) in the 400 meters with a time of 58.98, and the 4x100 relay team with a time of 47.75.

Other top performers for the women's team include freshman Alyssa Fanucci (Harrington Park, N.J.) who finished third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.13. Freshman Alexis Beaudet (Hutchison, Kan.) and sophomore Erin Catarius (Marshfield, Mass.) helped sweep the 200 meters, finishing second and third respectively. Freshman Katie Weider (East Patchogue, N.Y.) finished just behind Lopez in the 400 meters with a time of 59.06. Junior Amy Dannwolf (Brick Township, N.J.) finished second in the 800 meters at 2:24.43.

In field events, sophomore Megan LaBella (Dracut, Mass.) finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.57 meters (5'2"). Beaudet picked up another second place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.59 meters (18'4"), while sophomore Jackie Ward (Danvers, Mass.) finished third in the javelin with a throw of 35.28 meters (115'9").

On the men's side Howard finished first in the 400 meters with a time of 48.05 seconds, while Dambara jumped 1.93 meters (6'4") in the high jump. Also picking up a first place finish for the Terriers were junior Greg Sinnott (Center Moriches, N.Y.) in the 3000 meter steeple chase with a time of 10:04.69, junior Steven Boursiquot (Beverly, Mass.) in the long jump with a distance of 6.63 meters (21'9"), and the 4x100 relay team with a time of 43.43.

Also performing strong were senior Lucjan Zaborowski (Chorzow, Poland) who finished second in the 400 meters (48.05), junior Andrew Beatman (Middletown, Conn.) with a second place finish in the javelin (54.37m), senior Ryan Ung (Albuquerque, N.M.) with a fourth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles (15.88) and freshman Tom McLean (Glendale, Calif.) with a seventh place finish in the 1500 meters (4:15.26).
