Terriers Show Strong at Huskie Winter Track and Field Carnival

BOSTON - The Boston University indoor track teams competed at the Husky Winter Track and Field Carnival at the Reggie Lewis Center Saturday, with several Terrier athletes finishing high amongst competitors. Senior Camille Hazlewood missed the first place mark in the triple jump by just 0.09m, placing second with an 11.98m distance, while freshman Rich Haigh finished eighth in the 55 meter dash with a 6.68 mark, after qualifying for the finals with a 6.65 run.
Sophomore Whitney Ford finished first in the 200 meter dash with a 25.10 time and seniors Erin Catarius (25.93) Hazlewood (26.72) placed third and tenth, respectively, followed by junior Alyssa Fanucci (16, 27.06) and freshman Amanda Howard (30, 27.81). Sophomore Jordan Casey finished fifth in the 500m (1:20.27), followed by freshman Laura Martin (17, 1:23.73). The Terriers' 4X400m women's relay team placed seventh out of 27 teams with a 4:04.67 mark.
In the field competitions, freshman Karly Neveau tied for fifth in the high jump, getting over the bar set at 1.57m. Senior Megan LaBella also placed in the high jump, finishing in a tie for 10th, also covering the 1.57m height. Ford also finished first in the long jump (5.76m), followed by Fanucci (5.05m).
On the men's side, junior Andrew Jones finished behind Haigh in the 55m dash (29, 6.89), followed by junior David Barth (36, 6.95). Sophomore Kodjo Wilder placed 29th in the 200m (23.84), just four spots before Barth (24.14) and five ahead of Jones (24.20). Sophomore Logan Moore placed 88th in the race with a 25.68 time. Freshmen Tyler Ellis (12, 52.32) and Jason English (34, 53.56) finished in the top half of the 71-man 400m. Three BU runners placed in the top eight in the 500m, with senior Charles Steinhauser tied for second (1:05.54) and senior Keith Buchanan finishing fifth (1:06.32), followed by sophomore Mark Mazzochette (8, 1:06.44). Haigh also competed in the 500m for the Terriers, placing 25th with a 1:08.94 time, followed by senior Greg Daggett (32, 1:09.70) and freshman Michael Zimmerman (34, 1:09.97).
Daggett was BU's top finisher in the 55m hurdles, placing 14th in 8.31 seconds in the preliminaries, followed by Moore with an 8.61 mark in 24th place. Moore's 3.81m jump was good for a 12th place tie in the pole vault, while Daggett and sophomore Jordan Cumper failed to clear the starting height. Wilder earned the 17th spot in the long jump with a 6.11m leap, failing to qualify for the finals by 0.47m.
BU's track teams will next compete at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 8 in Allston, Mass.
