Men's Tennis Rolls Past Holy Cross 6-1

BOSTON - The Boston University men's tennis team (8-8) won its second consecutive match with a convincing 6-1 victory over Holy Cross on Wednesday, March 28, at the Track and Tennis Center.
The Terriers began the day with a dominating performance in doubles. Each BU tandem played extremely well and did not allow Holy Cross to win a game. In third doubles, juniors Daniel Frid (Dallas, Tex.) and Hans Sapra (Alpharetta, Ga.) defeated Jay DeSanto and Tom Moran, 8-0.
"Sweeping the doubles is great," coach Rocky Jarvis declared. "Not losing a game in any of the three matches is even better. Hopefully it is a sign of things to come."
In singles play, BU continued its winning ways by defeating Holy Cross in all but one singles match. Up a set in second singles, sophomore Charles Weinstein (New Rochelle, N.Y.) had to retire in the second set due to injury. At the number one position, senior Barrett Wolf (Boca Raton, Fla.) was the first off the court, defeating Angelo Sica, 6-0, 6-0. Junior co-captain Jared Kobren (Longboat Key, Fla.) easily beat Marco Lombardo, 6-1, 6-1, in fourth singles, and junior Giulio Gallarotti (Higganum, Conn.) won at third singles, 6-1, 6-3. The final two singles matches were just as dominating for the Terriers, as senior co-captain Ross Lohr (Newton, Mass.) dispatched DeSanto, 6-2, 6-0, and sophomore Tim Sichler (Los Lunas, N.M.) took No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
"We expected a win today and I'm pleased that we did it in such a dominant way," Jarvis said. "If we play this well with this much intensity on Sunday, I like our chances. The guys have worked extremely hard and we all believe that we'll accomplish something special against Binghamton."
The Terriers now prepare for one of biggest matches of the year against conference rival Binghamton. The match will be played on Sunday, April 1, at the Track and Tennis Center.
