Terriers Fall Short at NCAA Track and Field Regional

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - After sending five athletes to the NCAA Track and Field East Regional at James G. Pressly Stadium, the Boston University men's and women's track and field teams officially ended their season on Saturday, as each athlete fell short of qualifying for the championships.
After placing second in the 1,500-meter preliminary on Friday, junior David Proctor fell short in the finals the next day, finishing seventh with a time of 3:43.44. Conference-foe Max Smith of Providence, who placed first in the preliminary, also won the race with a time 3:41.09, setting a new East Regional record.
Freshman Eric Ashe was the other athlete to compete from the men's squad, racing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday night. Ashe placed 18th, racing to a time of 9:05.31.
Sophomore Rebecca Marshburn also qualified for the regional, competing in the 400-meter hurdles on Friday. Marshburn placed 26th with a time of 1:02.51. Teammate Marisa Ryan competed after Marshburn, racing in the 5,000 meters. Ryan crossed the finish line in 16:43.86, placing 16th. Only the top five finishers advance to the NCAA Championships.
Freshman Whitney Ford was the sole rookie to make the regional for BU. Ford competed in the triple jump, placing 24th, recording a distance of 12.11 meters.
